Scouting for Food is the annual food-collection drive run by the Denver Area Council. It's another reminder to our local communities that Scouts are here, doing good turns. Scouting for Food takes place on two consecutive weekends. On the first weekend (November 5-7), Scouts distribute door hangers to let their neighbors know about the drive. On the Saturday following (November 13), Scouts revisit those homes to pick up bags full of canned food, cereal, pasta, peanut butter, juice and other nonperishable items. The food is delivered to needy families through the council's boarders through our partnership with the Food Bank of the Rockies and relationships Troops and Packs have with their Chartered Partners or other local food pantries.

Due to the ongoing Pandemic, Scouting for Food will continue to look and feel a bit different this year. Our longtime partner, (Cares Colorado Shares will not be hosting centralized drop-off locations throughout the community. Individual Units wishing to participate in Scouting for Food will need to find a local food pantry and make unit-specific plans to drop off the collected food. A list of participating food pantries/banks will be posted on the Denver Area Council website. In addition, the Denver Area Council will be hosting a collection site at Donald E. Scott Colorado Adventure Point (10455 W. 6th Avenue) on Saturday, November 13 from 9 am until 3 pm to provide units with assistance in getting the collected food to the needy families.

COLLECTION

Filled bags should be left out overnight Friday and picked up on the morning of Saturday, November 13, 2021, beginning at 7 a.m.

Units will need to track the total number of bags of food collected and the number of participating Scouts to include on their Scouting for Food report before delivering the food to their receiving organization.

Each unit should select a Scouting for Food Coordinator and begin planning for a successful food drive.

Reporting After the Drive

Service hours are now being reported via Scoutbook!

All your unit service hours will be recorded in Internet Advancement. Furthermore, all Good Turn for America service hours entries, except Eagle Service Projects, are now available in Internet Advancement.

NOTE: Councils should still enter Eagle Scout Service Projects using current tools as Eagle Scout Service Project hours remain in Good Turn for America. For Exploring Service Hours continue to use Good Turn for America..
